The Hardy Boys: The Tower Treasure 10/29/13

Prompt: Tell me about the main character. What kind of person is he/she?
     In The Hardy Boys: The Tower Treasure There are two main characters. These are Frank and Joe Hardy. They are brother and act mostly the same. The book is set in  and children are expected to be very courteous to adults. You can see this when they say "'You remember us don't you?' Frank asked politely." and when they bring fruit and a ham to their friend's mom who is poor.
     They also are always are always making jokes with their friends. For example one of their friends suggests a crazy idea and they and their friends "howled with laughter". They often make jokes or do some thing funny and "The Hardys and their friends burst into roars of laughter." They and their friends like to have fun and joke around together.
     Finally they are very enthusiastic. When their dad asks them to come to New York to help him on a case they say "This is super! What a surprise!" They always want to help their friends and anyone in need. For example they volunteer to work at a shop so that the owner can get some rest. The Hardy Boys are always helpful and friendly.

Prompt: Summarize what you just read.
     In the beginning of The Tower Treasure The Hardy Boys almost get run over while riding their motorcycles. The driver was swerving randomly around the road and almost hit the Hardy Boys. They then find the same car crashed on the side of the road with the license plates removed. After that they find out that their friend Chet's car was stolen.
     They then came across one of their friends who had almost been run over by a car. She said that it was Chet's car and a man with red hair was driving it. While looking for the car they come across the investigation of a holdup scene. They learn that the suspect put on a red wig while he was getting into Chet's yellow car after committing the crime. They think that he is the same person who almost ran them over and stole Chet's car.
     They then start looking for the thief. While they are looking Chet is threatened. They see someone running away from his barn and when they investigate they find a gray wig. They use this to try to find the thief. They then get famous detective Mr. Hardy to help and they find the car. There is then a robbery of  40,000 dollars from Mr. Applegate. This book is getting very interesting.

Prompt: Describe the main characters.
     The first main character is Carver Young. He is a fourteen year old and is very smart. He enjoys reading and just generally knows a lot. It also is very hard to make him listen to and believe you because he once lived in an orphanage. This experience gave him the personality of not trusting many people. He also doesn't have very good behavior. He also got this personality from the orphanage. He often gets into fights.
     The second main character is Mr. Hawking. He is also not very well behaved. He was weakened by gunshot wounds in a shootout and that has made him have a very short temper. He is very smart because he worked with Mr. Pinkerton and is a very good detective. He once lived in asylum and that is where his main headquarters are. This experience has also made him very short tempered.
     The last main character is Delia. She is very orderly because she works for the newspaper. She is the same age as Carver. She has also been affected by being an orphan because she isn't afraid to do something that she could get in trouble for. This has shaped what she does in the story in a big way.
These are the three main characters and what they are like.

Prompt: List at least three problems the characters faced? Which was the most life changing? Explain
     There were a few problems the characters faced. the first problem the main character (Carver Young) faced was that he lived in an orphanage. His father abandoned him and he had no family that he knew. This experience definitely changed his life in a big way.
     Another problem is that he realizes that his father is a murderer. His father is Jack the Ripper a murder who is loose in New York City. This affects his life because it makes think if he is a good person or not. This problem lowered his self esteem a lot.
     The final problem he had was that his mentors boss is always tricking him. He gets into fights with him and eventually gets him arrested. He dies in jail and Carver thinks that it is his fault. This also lowers his self esteem because it makes him wonder what kind of a person he is. I think the most life changing problem is that he is an orphan. This affected his life in a big way because it meant that he could only trust a few people. This definitely affected his future and how he acted.

The Princess's Choice

Without the slightest hesitation, he went to the door on the right, and opened it. Suddenly there were joyous cheers all around the arena because behind that door was the lady. The princess wept even though she knew she had made the right choice. She didn't want to lose him but she couldn't stand to send him to his death. As the man was wedded to the lady he was sad that he was separated from the princess but he was glad that he wasn't dead. He was happy with the woman because she was very pretty. The princess was sad for a while but found another man and was happy. She was not as happy as she would have been but she was still happy. The princess made a choice and it made everyone happy.

Ripper: 10/1/13

     The book I have been reading is called Ripper. I read from page 0 to page 229.
Prompt: Describe a character that you would like to meet.

     A character that I would like to meet is Carver Young. He is the main character. He is a 14 year old boy and is a detective. He was an orphan but was adopted by a man in the Pinkerton Detective Agency. He knows that he is smart and likes snooping around but his boss also made him adopt him because he suspected that a murderer loose in the city is his father.

     Carver is smart and likes to take matters into his own hands. For example his original job was to look for his father but he started looking for the murderer by himself. He was out looking for evidence when he realized he was being followed. He also punched his boss and escaped from being locked in a room by going through a sewer. As you can see he likes to take matters into his own hands.
     There are a few questions I would like to ask Carver Young. The first one is,  "What do you like most about being a detective?" The next one is, "Was your dream job to be a detective before Mr. Hawking asked you to be one?" The third question I would ask is "If you could change the past would you still choose to be a detective?" The last question I would ask is, "How long did it take you to escape the sewer?" I would ask these questions because they are not answered in the story.

My Favorite Book of All Time

     My favorite book of all time is Hatchet. I like this book because it is about survival in the wilderness. This interests me because I am in Boy Scouts and like camping. I have always wanted to go back country camping, camping in the forest where you have to hike to and make your own campsites. The Hatchet is like this because there is no set up camp and the main character has to do everything by himself. He is stranded in the middle of the forest with only a hatchet.
     The story is that the main character's parents are divorced. Brian, the main character, is flying to visit his father in Canada. His mother gives him a hatchet because she knows that he can use it in Canada and wants to give him a gift because he hasn't been talking to her. The pilot has a heart attack and he crashes into a lake. He only has his hatchet and uses it to build a shelter and make tools to hunt. After a while there is a tornado that destroys his shelter and breaks or throws most of his tools into the lake. It is after the tornado that he remembers the survival kit in the plane. When he gets it he accidentally leaves the emergency transmitter on and someone comes and rescues him.
     I thought this was a very interesting book and would recommend it to anyone.
